Scientific Lecture Entitled: ‘The Harms of Drugs’
December 3, 2024The English Language Department at Alyarmok University College, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Division and the Psychological Guidance and Counseling Unit, held a workshop
entitled “Irony: Types and Functions” (Irony: Types and Functions).
The workshop was moderated by Dr. Anwar Jawad Kazim and presented by Dr. Areej Sadiq Dawood, and dealt with the concept of irony as a contradiction between the apparent and reality, explaining its types:
- Dramatization: The audience knows more than the character.
- Situational: A contradiction between expectation and reality.
- Verbal: Words mean the opposite of what they sound like.
The workshop concluded by emphasizing the importance of understanding the tone of voice and words to avoid misunderstandings and conflicts.
